Position: Agricultural Resource Specialist (Bay Program) – Perry County Conservation District

Agricultural Resource Specialist (Bay Program) – Perry County Conservation District

Perry County Conservation District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Agricultural Resource Specialist. This position is responsible for providing direct technical assistance, educational outreach and services to residents of Perry County, with a focus on owners and operators of Perry County farms.

Primary duties include:

  • Chesapeake Bay Program delivery and compliance inspection administration.
  • Review of Nutrient Management Plans (Act 38), review /development of Agriculture Erosion and Sediment Control Plans (Chap 102), and Manure Management Plans (Chapter 91).
  • Provide natural resource technical assistance in the form of District agriculture programs and services, and plan development assistance.
  • Provide natural resource educational outreach in the form of site visits, newsletters, workshops, complaint investigations etc. to promote the use of best management practices and agricultural compliance with federal, state and local laws.

Experience in the following is desired, but not required:

  • Agriculture Erosion and Sediment Control Plan Development
  • Nutrient Management Program experience or certification.
  • Conservation Planning or NRCS Conservation Planner certification.
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Successful candidate must possess:

Agricultural background with a good working knowledge of crops, soils, nutrients, animal husbandry, hydrology, and land use. Strong communication and organizational skills. Learning capacity to obtain Act 38 Public Nutrient Management Specialist certification and NRCS Conservation Planner certification within initial training period.

A Bachelor of Science degree in agronomy, agriculture,environmental science, or related field is required. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may qualify at the discretion of the PCCD. Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, and eligible to receive all clearances. Available to work some evenings and Saturdays.

This is a full time, 40 hour/week position with a starting salary of $18.33/hour with consideration given for relevant experience in accordance with the Perry County Base Pay and Compensation Policy. Perry County employment includes a generous benefit package of medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, paid leave, along with a defined county retirement plan after a 90-day probationary period.
