Overview
The Clinical Team Leader (CTL) identifies the procedures, processes, and patient care to be accomplished during the work period, and the resources required to carry out the unit's work safely in collaboration with unit and organizational leadership. The CTL distributes work to make the best use of available resources, considering the knowledge, skills, and abilities of staff integral to the patient care process, and coordinates work and resources to meet changing requirements.
This includes coordinating patient flow with clinical logistics and crisis services, maintaining safety, and promoting the use of Hospital Acquired Condition Prevention tools. The CTL remains situationally aware of patient status and milieu acuity, evaluates outcomes, and adjusts resource assignments as needed. Observations may inform individual employee evaluations or staff education, but these functions are not supervisory in the sense of employment decisions.
