Supervisor: Director of Nursing
Shift: 11pm-7am

Qualification: Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse by the New Jersey Board of Nursing. Previous experience in a geriatric long‑term care facility preferred. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language required.
Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to provide direct nursing care to the residents and to assist in the supervision of the day‑to‑day activities performed by other nurses and nursing assistants. Such supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern our facility and as may be required by the Director of Nursing to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
Functions:
- Follow established standards of nursing practices, facility policies and procedures.
- Assist in obtaining reports from outbound shift nurse and record sufficient information to implement appropriate follow‑up actions.
- Ensure that all nursing assistants comply with current rules, regulations and guidelines governing the long‑term care facility.
- Interpret existing policies and procedures to nursing assistants, residents, families/sponsors and physicians.
- Direct the day‑to‑day functions of nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations and guidelines.
- Provide reports to the incoming shift nurse with sufficient information for follow‑up actions.
- Conduct rounds at the beginning, during and end of the shift as part of the shift report to identify resident problems or concerns.
- Identify safety hazards, equipment failure or building problems and initiate appropriate measures, including notification to appropriate administrative staff.
- Identify recent problems and emergency situations and initiate appropriate measures, including notification to administrative staff.
- Attend in‑service programs as assigned and required.
- Participate in the employee evaluation process by providing information on the clinical performance of nursing assistants to the Director of Nursing.
- Administer medications and treatments according to physician's orders and accurately document all care provided.
- Prepare and administer medications, enteral nutrition and treatments as ordered.
