Under supervision, performs a variety of tasks associated with learning the associated responsibilities of a certified water/wastewater operator - in preparation for receiving an entry-level certification.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

* Under the direction of a certified Water or Wastewater Operator, performs tasks associated with the operations of a water or wastewater facility.

* Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent

* Reports operating problems to lead operator or supervisor and performs directed corrective action during assigned shift

* Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels

* Observes and reports abnormalities to Certified Operator

* After training, operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control

* After training, starts and stops pumps, engines and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes

* Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings

* Learns and gains skill in a variety of equipment maintenance, servicing, and operating tasks.

* Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties

* Understands and carries out oral and written directions

* Takes and records readings produced from the operation of equipment

* Learns to take samples and perform routine process laboratory tests and analysis under supervision of certified operator

* Daily and punctual attendance in the office and/or job site

* Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work

* This position may be required to be available on an on-call basis for emergencies

* Travel between work locations is required.

* Performs other related duties as assigned

Here's what you'll need

* Basic experience in operating water/wastewater treatment plants

* Basic understanding of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to enter data into a maintenance management system

* Valid driver's license

Ideally, You'll Also Have:

* A current, or working towards obtaining a first level water/wastewater treatment certification

* Basic familiarity of the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant operations, valves, pumps, and motors

* Safe work practices
