Field/Service Technician, Installation Technician

Position:
Field Service Class A Technician or Journeyman Technician
Pay Range: $36.50–$52.60 per hour (dependent on education and experience).
The Field Service Technician works with minimal direct supervision in diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment at the customer’s site in a manner that reflects the company’s vision of working as "One Professional Team." Product support, sales collaboration and customer communication are integral to the role.

- Maintain truck and crane inspection logs daily.
- Complete CAT service reports daily; ensure legible writing, proper grammar and sentence structure, and use of appropriate SIMS code.
- Transmit photos, timecards, service reports and other information via e‑mail.
- Maintain accurate customer records for assigned jobs.
- Maintain credit card receipts for accounting purposes.
- Collaborate with Service Department, Product Support Representatives and Sales Department to meet customer needs.
- Communicate with customers on diagnosis, status of repairs, parts, and other concerns.
- Teach and coach other technicians in the field.
- Promote Wagner Equipment Co. to customers.
- Accurately troubleshoot and repair CAT equipment the first time.
- Read, understand and apply electrical and hydraulic schematics to repair work.
- Safely rig or hook components for lifting.
- Remove, repair and install major components in varying configurations.
- Maintain tooling in good working order per MSHA and OSHA regulations.
- Make field determinations on warranty repair and guidelines, and communicate decisions to customer and dispatcher.
- Maintain service vehicle in safe and good repair.
- Perform other duties assigned by manager.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Relevant CAT related courses.
- 5+ years servicing heavy equipment.
- 1+ years administrative/clerical experience.
- 3+ years customer service experience.
- 3+ years sales experience.
- DOT Health Card.
- Class A Driver’s License.
- MSHA License.
- Pass all required pre‑employment screenings (background checks, drug/alcohol testing, fit‑for‑duty testing and other job‑related tests).
- Standing, walking, talking, sitting, use of hands and hearing.
- Data entry, telephone communication, reading/writing, reasoning, organization, communication and math skills.
- Safety and product knowledge.
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, etc.
- Lifting and/or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more.
- Intermediate knowledge of DBS.
- Intermediate knowledge of ET/SIS/SIS Web/STW.
- Ability to work independently with little or no direction.
- Well‑rounded knowledge of CAT equipment.
- 75%–100% travel.
