Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager

We are looking for a dedicated Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager to plan, develop, organize, and manage the EHS function as consistent with protecting people and the environment. This position will focus on implementing safe workplace practices, ensuring regulatory compliance, and minimizing risk to our employees and our business. This sole practitioner role will establish policies, procedures, and standards for the department, perform audits, and play a key role in executing the company's EHS strategy.

The EHS Manager will be based at our headquarters office located in Bloomingdale, IL. Major responsibilities are as follows:

  • Develop and maintain integrated HSE management systems that align with corporate goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the development and execution of policies, procedures, training programs, and audits for both health & safety and environmental domains.
  • Provide leadership and work collaboratively with EHS teams across all sites to align efforts and drive the organization toward common strategic objectives.
  • Lead and oversee the efforts of the Health & Safety and Environmental leaders at the manufacturing sites (including Futaba Japan), providing guidance, support, and performance oversight.
  • Audit the organization's EHS processes, systems, and operations to determine compliance with established standards, policies, or regulations.
  • Assess the effectiveness of internal controls, identify risks, and provide assurance to stakeholders that operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and ethically.
  • Ensure responsible management of resources, pollution control, and sustainable practices that align business operations with ecological responsibility.
  • Ensure compliance with municipal, state, and federal legislation related to health, safety, and environmental standards ntain related records.
  • Recommend and implement counter measures that will strive to achieve zero penalties.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives relating to workplace safety, ergonomics, environmental sustainability, and risk mitigation.
  • Monitor and report on HSE performance metrics, including incidents, audits, corrective actions, and compliance status.
  • Interface with regulatory bodies, industry associations, internal stakeholders, and Japan corporate office to ensure alignment with best practices and emerging standards.
  • Lead emergency preparedness and contractor safety programs, ensuring readiness and compliance.
  • Support cross-functional teams (e.g., Production, Maintenance, Engineering) with the integration of HSE principles into workplace and equipment design.
  • Represent FNA in Futaba North America Yokogushi activities and other external forums related to HSE. Lead these activities as required.
  • Promote employees' awareness and engagement through initiatives such as Safety Month, Earth Month, and other internal communication initiatives.
  • Develop and adhere to departmental budget. Control variances.
  • Maintain communications with management and provide updates on progress, issues, and delays.
  • Maintain professional currency in technical knowledge and relevant products, services, and marketplace developments.
  • Comply with and enforce company policies and procedures and safety and housekeeping requirements.
  • Perform other projects and duties as assigned.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have at least 5+ years of progressive Environmental, Health, and Safety management experience within a multi-site manufacturing environment. Prior experience with welding and stamping processes preferred, along with exposure as a Toyota supplier.

Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health and Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Management, Engineering, or a related field is required. Solid technical knowledge in OSHA, WHMIS, TDG, and ISO 14001 is essential. CSP or SMP Certification status and ISO 14001 auditing is preferred. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required, along with experience in safety management software. Must be able to interface effectively at all levels of the organization and across diverse employees.
