Locum Tenens Anesthesiologist Job Details (Bloomington, IL)
Position Type: Travel / Locum Tenens Physician (Anesthesiology)
Location:
Bloomington, IL 61701 (Central Illinois) — a comfortable, community-oriented area with nearby restaurants, green spaces, and convenient regional access.

Assignment Duration: 52 weeks (through 3/20/2027)
Hours per Week: 32
Shifts per Week: 4
Shift Duration:
16-hour days
Shift Types: Day shift coverage; pager call for weeknights/weekends/holidays
Call: Pager call opportunities for weeknights, weekends, and holidays (as needed)
Overtime: Not expected, but may be offered
Charting/EMR: Epic
Anesthesia Rooms: 9
Care Team Model: Supervision of CRNAs; typical ratio 1:4 (occasional solo cases may occur)
Estimated Weekly Pay Range:
$9,130–$9,630
Anesthesiologist (MD/DO) Requirements
MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Completion of an approved residency in anesthesia
Board Certified in Anesthesiology (required)
ECFMG and FLEX (as applicable)
Active Illinois medical license or willingness/eligibility to obtain
Minimum 2 years of recent anesthesiology experience (hospital-based preferred)
Comfort with cardiac anesthesia ; no fellowship required and TEE not required
Ability to work effectively in a CRNA supervision/medical direction model with perioperative teams
Key Responsibilities (Hospital-Based Anesthesiology)
Assist in directing and coordinating activities within the anesthesia department
Provide medical management for patients receiving anesthesia for surgical and procedural care
Perform pre-anesthesia assessments and develop individualized anesthesia care plans
Obtain and/or verify informed consent; discuss anesthetic options and risks with patients
Manage induction, maintenance, and emergence from anesthesia across multiple service lines
Continuously monitor physiologic status and perform clinical interventions as needed
Collaborate with surgeons, CRNAs, nursing, and perioperative staff to support safe, efficient patient care
