The Director of the Office of Campus Culture leads campus educational initiatives about all cultures and broad viewpoint diversity; champions civility, empathy, respect and conflict management capacity building; supports belonging, student success, retention and outcomes. The Director leads the department which includes supervising student mentors and staff toward achieving high quality results. This is a full time, on-campus position. Responsibilities
  • Support student success and belonging; serve as the Chicago Scholars liaison, supporting retention and student success; support first generation students with programs, communication and intervention supports; provide retention‑centered outreach for student concerns and support; direct the IMPACT pre‑orientation program; manage the MC House operations and support; support student organizations that focus on campus culture and plurality of perspectives; convene the Council for Inclusion and Awareness and support the Student Senate Diversity and Inclusion Commissioner.
  • Provide educational programs and training regarding all campus cultures for students; plan, implement, promote and assess Culture, Conversation and Civility (3C) programming; collaborate with students, faculty and staff to provide high quality education about cultures; coordinate signature events including the annual MLK Teach‑in and Unity Gala (collaborative with Student Senate); collaborate with internal departments (residence life, athletics, fraternity/sorority life, academic departments), external agencies and organizations that support all cultures and civility programming.
  • Champion civility across cultures and viewpoints; serve on the Campus Culture Incident Response team, which includes Title VI compliance; collaborate with campus partners supporting respect initiatives like Green Dot bystander intervention, new student orientation and future Center for Civil Engagement; integrate civility values, strategies and skills into student programming and training (e.g. RA training, IMPACT, SEP, etc.); explore innovative ideas regarding civility and conflict management.
  • Departmental leadership and supervision; supervise the Assistant Director of Campus Culture and the Multi‑Faith Engagement Coordinator; monitor and maintain departmental budget; assess programs and annual report departmental successes and challenges.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required; preference for master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, social justice and leadership.
  • Minimum of five years’ related experience in belonging and community work on a college campus; eight years experience may substitute for preferred master’s degree.
  • Knowledge of cultural experiences of students, retention trends, legal landscape regarding equity and conflict resolution.
  • Occasional evening/weekend work required.
  • Participates in Student Affairs On‑Call rotation; must live within 30 miles of campus for emergency response.
  • Final candidate will pass a pre‑employment background investigation.

Base salary: $57,000–$61,000, based on experience.
