Excel Prep is a laboratory school serving neurodiverse children ages 3–13, including learners with autism and other developmental differences. The program emphasizes both academic achievement and social development for children who learn differently. Instruction is grounded in behavior science and education research, with Direct Instruction and Precision Teaching as core models. Based in Champaign, IL, Excel Prep provides a nurturing academic environment focused on building cognitive-linguistic skills.

The school uses data-driven, research-based instructional design to tailor learning experiences to each student’s needs.

Role Description

The LBSI Teacher at Excel Prep Schools Bloomington is a full-time, on-site role located in Bloomington, IL. This educator designs and delivers individualized and small-group instruction for neurodiverse students, using Direct Instruction, Precision Teaching, and other evidence-based methods. Daily responsibilities include planning lessons aligned with student IEPs, tracking performance data, and adjusting instruction based on ongoing assessment. The LBSI Teacher collaborates with families, behavior analysts, therapists, and school staff to support academic, behavioral, and social goals.

The role also involves maintaining accurate documentation, participating in team meetings, and contributing to a positive, inclusive classroom environment.

Qualifications
  • Strong Teaching and Education skills, including experience supporting neurodiverse learners and implementing evidence-based instructional methods.
  • Proficiency in Lesson Planning and instructional design, with the ability to differentiate curriculum and align instruction with IEP goals.
  • Effective Communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication with students, families, and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Experience in Training and coaching, such as guiding support staff or paraprofessionals in consistent implementation of instructional and behavioral strategies.
  • Valid teaching license with LBSI or Special Education endorsement (or eligibility to obtain), and a bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with behavior science principles, data collection, and progress monitoring in educational settings.
  • Ability to maintain a safe, structured, and supportive classroom environment for students with diverse learning and behavioral needs.
  • Flexibility, problem-solving skills, and willingness to learn and apply new instructional and behavioral approaches.
