Job DescriptionCredits and Incentives (C&I) Director, Tax – responsible for leading the Tax Credits practice, consulting with middle‑market and Fortune 500 clients to identify, calculate, document, and transfer eligible federal and state tax credits.
Responsibilities- Act as a trusted advisor to middle‑market clients, providing strategic tax credit consulting services.
- Work with industry experts to document eligibility and qualification for federal and state credits and incentives.
- Identify purchasers of federal and state tax credits suitable for transfer.
- Close tax credit transactions while mitigating risk to purchasers.
- Research and draft technical memoranda on tax credit matters.
- Provide technical support to industry experts.
- Develop industry thought leadership through internal and external articles and presentations.
- Become a functional expert in each client’s relevant technical area.
- Assist with managing client engagement staffing, billing/collections, and ensuring profitability targets are met.
- Network and build relationships internally and externally, with colleagues, clients, and the community.
- Coordinate with C&I leadership to drive opportunities through existing and prospective clients and contribute to team building and training.
- Invest in your own professional development and participate in firm‑wide learning and development programs.
- Act as a career advisor to senior managers and managers.
- Review work prepared by managers and senior managers, and collaborate with partners on client optimization strategies.
- 4‑year degree required.
- CPA, EA, or CMI certification required.
- Minimum of 12 years of work experience in Tax C&I consulting, preferably federal and/or state statutory credits, including credits related to the Inflation Reduction Act, CHIPS Act, Opportunity Zones, and Work Opportunity Tax Credit.
- 3+ years of management experience, mentoring and counseling team members.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise others, provide exceptional client service, and commit to continuous learning.
- Strong ethical knowledge and commitment, sense of urgency, and commitment to quality and timely project completion.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, highly preferred.
- Prior success in business development, project delivery, and practice development activities.
- Ability to demonstrate success in practice development, providing thought leadership, and meeting sales targets.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Motivated self‑starter with experience managing multiple client engagements.
- Creative problem‑solving and research skills.
The national pay rate range for this position is $210,380 to $398,850. Baker Tilly offers a comprehensive compensation and benefits package to eligible employees.
