Hancock County Senior Services Job Summary

This position assists the Activities Director in the development and implementation of recreation programs which meet/exceed standards of all regulatory agencies and facility policies and procedures, in order to provide a planned program of varied group and individual activities geared to the individual resident needs. These activities will be available for a reasonable number of hours each day. In addition, all transportation scheduling will be included – necessary appointments and outings with occasional driving if necessary.

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years’ experience in a social or recreational program within the last 5 years, one of which was full time in patient/resident activities program in a health care setting OR completed a training course approved by the State of Illinois.
• Valid driver’s license and be insurable.
• Ability to drive a large passenger van and to load and unload residents.
• Ability to work independently to make decisions, recognize problems, and provide a plan of correction.
• Ability to interact tactfully with residents, families, visitors, staff and the public.

• C.N.A. license (or are willing to begin coursework to obtain license upon hire)
• Possess knowledge in the field of gerontology as it relates to long term care.

• Frequently:
  Works in well lighted/ventilated work areas.
• Frequently:
  Moderate physical effort (lift/carry 25 pounds).
• Occasionally:
  Prolonged sitting, standing, bending, lifting, moving, climbing.
• Regularly:
  Pushing carts and wheelchairs to transport residents.
• Regularly:
  Contact with residents’ families, personnel, and visitors under all conditions and circumstances.
• Occasionally:
  At times subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents and/or family members.
• Regularly:
  Subject to frequent interruptions.
• Occasionally:
  Irregular working hours and in other positions temporarily when necessary.
• Rarely:
  Subject to falls, burns from equipment.
• Rarely:
  Subject to infectious diseases.
