Position:
Respiratory Therapist – Night Shift

Location:

Advocate Children’s Hospital, 4440 W. 95th St, Oak Lawn, IL 60559

Department:
Pediatric & Neonatal Respiratory Care

Hours:

36 per week, 3rd shift (Night)

Pay: $35.50 – $53.25 per hour

Bonuses: $20,000 sign‑on bonus, relocation bonus available, loan forgiveness program up to $20,000.

Summary

Provides and coordinates comprehensive respiratory care for neonatal, pediatric, and pediatric cardiac patients across ICU, floors, and emergency department.

Responsibilities
  • Administer respiratory care procedures and modalities in accordance with established standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Operate specialized ventilators in critical and non‑critical care venues.
  • Assist physicians with bedside or other procedures as applicable.
  • Administer medication treatments and therapies per physician order and patient‑driven respiratory protocols (PDRP).
  • Clean, maintain and troubleshoot respiratory equipment, and request service or repair as needed.
  • Educate and instruct patients and families on purpose, technique, self‑care, and disease management.
  • Facilitate clinical problem‑solving and collaborate with other departments to provide education on managing patients.
  • Adapt and comply with policies and procedures for various service areas, perform tasks and special duties as required, and maintain performance standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety, recognize and apply proper safety measures, report patient safety events and near misses, and assist in implementation of corrective actions.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary for age‑appropriate care, assess patient data and interpret information to identify patient requirements relative to age‑specific needs.
Licensure & Certifications
  • Respiratory Therapist certification (CRT) issued by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) – must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification (American Heart Association).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – must be obtained within 0 months unless waivered.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – must be obtained within 0 months unless waivered.
  • Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) – must be obtained within 0 months unless waivered.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – must be obtained within 0 months unless waivered.
  • Neonatal/Pediatric Respiratory Specialist (NPS) – must be obtained within 0 months unless waivered.
Education

Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy.

Experience

No prior experience required.

  • Proficient computer skills, including electronic mail and EHR systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, listening and interpersonal skills.

  • Time management, multi‑tasking and prioritization in environments with frequent interruptions.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift 50lb objects from knee to waist; lift 50lb from floor to waist height occasionally.
  • Lift 40lb at waist height and carry across various distances.
  • Lift 20lb from waist to overhead.
  • Push/pull using 30lb force occasionally for long distances.
  • Stand‑pivot transfer from bed to chair.
  • Sliding transfer of a 150‑lb person on a sheet across two feet with a second person.
  • Utilize safe body mechanics at all times.
