Pay Range:

$18.85 - $28.30

Major Responsibilities:

Demonstrates competency in clinical practice:

  • Works under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, to provide direct student care according to established standards/plan of care/guidelines.
  • Utilizes appropriate decision making for treatments based on student’s condition, emergency treatment guidelines for schools, and when needed consultation with School Nurse. Documents all treatments in student record.
  • Recognizes need for and facilitates referrals to healthcare provider for further treatment.
  • Administers medications and performs treatments according to the established standards/plan of care.
  • Performs point of care testing/quality controls.
  • Documents legibly using concise terms, correct terminology/approved abbreviations.
  • Maintains clinical environment/supplies/equipment conducive to safe healthcare in the school setting.
  • Complies with accreditation body standards.
  • Recognizes/responds to emergency in school setting.
  • Utilizes Georgia Registry of Immunization Tracking program. (GRITS)

Facilitates learning in SHH/school staff/ students/families and community:

  • Participates in health educational programs as requested by the school.
  • Participates in CHNH sponsored community events.

Utilizes effective interpersonal/communication skills to facilitate optimal student care/activities:

  • Actively seeks/provides ongoing discussion/feedback related to student healthcare with SHH/School staff/student/parent.
  • Demonstrates effective communication/problem solving skills to include active listening, tact, diplomacy, and assertiveness that conveys mutual respect/understanding.
  • Communicates effectively via email, both NH and School District.
  • Consult with Program Coordinator or Registered Nurses regarding clinical issues/situations.
  • Notifies Program Coordinator when student condition requires emergency medical treatment

Demonstrates self-growth:

  • Performs annual self-evaluation to include goals/objectives.
  • Participates in school/community based meetings/committees as appropriate to school health/pediatrics.
  • Ability to apply self-reflection using supervisory/co-worker feedback to develop professionally.
  • Attends/participates in continuing Education programs.
  • Completes annual competency training and mandatory continuing education training specific for School House Health.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification

Required:

Current valid CPR.Preferred certification from an accredited technical school for CNA or MA. Preferred 1 year pediatric patient care experience.

Education Required:

High School Diploma or GED. Preferred graduate of an accredited Technical School for Certified Nursing Assistant or Medical Assistant.

Experience

Required:

Minimum of one year of clinical experience with strong preference for pediatric experience.

Experience working with economically disadvantaged population preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Required:

Must have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Must be able to perform with a high degree of accuracy to reduce errors in judgment concerning utilization of resources and students.

Must be able to utilize initiative and independent action required within general framework of professional responsibilities.

Must exhibit a high degree of confidentiality.

Must be able to work irregular schedules dependent on the needs of students/community.



Physical Requirements and

Working Conditions:

Must be able to use visual near and distance acuity.

Must have verbal ability to communicate in person and over the phone or radio.

Must be able to assist co-workers in transfers and transport supplies, patients/residents, or equipment using good body mechanics.

Must have functional range of motion of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spines, upper and lower extremities with a grip strength of 60-80 pounds, specific to the job class evaluation.
