Job Description & How to Apply Below

Haber's technology only creates value when it fits the reality of a specific mill - its unit operations, its variability, its operators, its data, its constraints. That fit cannot be discovered from a conference room or a customer survey. It has to be lived on the floor.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you go and live inside a customer's mill for two to three weeks at a time during a trial or a deployment. You learn how the process actually runs, map it properly, run the trial to a measurable result, and send back to our team in India the structured picture of that mill they need in order to build the right thing.

We are looking for someone who has spent their working life solving mill problems day to day, whether you did that on a mill's own payroll, or as the supplier the mill calls when the machine misbehaves. If you have commissioned equipment on a live line, run a chemical or process trial in someone else's plant, or been the outside expert standing in a control room at 3am, you already know most of this job.

This is the domain half of the role, not the coding half. You will not build the product, you will be the reason it works at each mill. Your job is to make the technology fit the plant.

Key Responsibilities

Embed at Customer Mills

  • Spend 2–3 week blocks on site during trials and deployments, in the control room, on the floor, in shift handovers, alongside process engineers and operators. Earn their trust and learn their process cold.
  • Be the face of Haber at the mill. Troubleshoot, adjust, and keep things moving when reality diverges from the plan.
  • Work the way the mill works: shifts, outages, grade changes and shutdowns set the schedule, not the calendar.
Understand and Map the Process
  • Map the unit operations end to end — refining, digesting, bleaching, stock prep, wet end, drying, chemical recovery and where the variability actually enters.
  • Map the control philosophy and the operator decision‑making around it: who decides what, on what signal, on which shift.
  • Work the data that describes it all, historian tags, DCS/PLC signals, lab results, batch and production records and know what “bad data” looks like before it reaches a model.
  • Produce the artifacts that make a mill legible to someone who has never stood in it: process maps, tag dictionaries, mass and energy balances, and a clear statement of what is different about this mill.
Own the Trial
  • Run trials at customer mills to a measurable, agreed result - defining the baseline, the success criteria, the sampling and measurement plan, and the conditions under which the trial is valid.
  • Sit with the mill's own numbers and the mill's own people until both sides agree on what the trial showed.
  • Diagnose why a trial under performs, in process terms, and say so plainly.
Customer Success and Adoption
  • Drive adoption after go‑live: make sure operators and process engineers actually use what has been installed, and that it holds up across shifts and grade changes.
  • Own the day‑to‑day technical relationship at the mill and be the person the customer calls.
  • Track and report the outcome the customer was promised — savings, yield, quality, water and energy — in the mill's own terms.
Close the Loop with the Team in India
  • Send structured field input back to Haber's product, data and engineering teams in Pune: requirements, edge cases, data realities, constraints and validated success metrics — not anecdotes.
  • Package and hand over mill data cleanly, with the context needed to interpret it correctly from 12,000 km away.
  • Carry patterns across mills so each trial and each deployment is faster than the last.
Who You Will Work With

At the mill you work with operators, shift crews, process engineers, and plant and technical leadership. Inside Haber you work with the…
