Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator

Reports to:

Director of Development and Administration

Position:
Full-time

Hourly Rate: $23.00 – $26.00

Job Summary:

The Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator plays a vital role in advancing the Foundation's mission by strengthening community engagement, expanding membership, and supporting stewardship initiatives. This full-time position serves as a key connector between the organization, its volunteers, members, and the public. The role requires strong independent judgment, clear communication, and a passion for land conservation, outreach, and volunteer leadership.

Outreach & Community Engagement
  • Attend Outreach Committee meetings and collaborate on the development and execution of outreach strategies that increase public awareness and membership.
  • Coordinate and deliver educational and outreach programs for community groups, partners, and requesting organizations.
  • Serve as a public-facing representative of the Foundation, ensuring consistent and professional messaging aligned with the mission.
Communications & Marketing
  • Develop, produce, and distribute newsletters, press releases, and outreach communications.
  • Update and maintain website content and manage social media platforms to promote programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Manage outreach materials, apparel orders, and promotional inventory to support marketing and fundraising efforts.
Membership, Donor & Data Management
  • Maintain and update membership, donor, and volunteer databases, maintaining data accuracy and integrity.
  • Support fundraising and membership growth initiatives, including mailings, surveys, and membership drives.
  • Coordinate targeted outreach campaigns in collaboration with internal stakeholders and leadership.
  • Recruit, train, retain, and recognize Volunteer Stewards.
  • Organize volunteer workdays, document volunteer activities and hours, and maintain required permits.
  • Communicate regularly with volunteers and develop policies to support safe, effective volunteer engagement.
  • Support stewardship activities, including outdoor and field-based work, as needed.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and public communication skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications and ability to learn new systems and tools.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable working outdoors year-round.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to office and rural sites.
  • Availability for weekend work and accessibility during standard business hours.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations or volunteer-based programs.
  • Experience with social media management, graphic design, event planning.
  • Experience with CRM software.
  • Prior experience working with volunteers and coordinating outdoor or conservation-related activities.
Location

Park Lands Foundation has office space in Normal, IL. Events and volunteer workdays will occur on Park Lands Preserves in rural Woodford and McLean Counties.
