HOURS & SHIFT REQUIREMENTS:
Full Time. Monday – Thursday 7:30 am – 5:00 pm & Friday 7:30 am – 12: pm.

GENERAL SUMMARY The Staff RN or LPN is a professional practitioner who functions as both a caregiver and care manager. In the caregiver role, the RN or LPN assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame, implementing the Nursing Process and therapeutic use of self. In the dominant role of care manager, the RN or LPN directs and oversees the care of other caregivers (nurses and non-nurses) via delegation, coordination, supervision, validation, and evaluation.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Performs assessment and data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on the patient's physiologic and cognitive status.
2. Formulates or individualizes a plan of care in a goal-consistent and continuous manner utilizing pre-determined standards that define structure, process, and desired patient outcomes of the nursing process.
3. Evaluates effectiveness of care given by self and by all health care team members, including systems, environment, and equipment contributing to patient outcomes.
4. Demonstrates competency in selected psychomotor skills adhering to written procedures.
5. Identifies patient learning needs and readiness for learning; implements patient/significant other education to support self-care needs per standards and protocols.
6. Performs documentation responsibilities following established standards and guidelines for nursing division forms and assigned areas.
7. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient rights as defined by the institution.
8. Functions in accordance with safety requirements outlined in existing standards.
9. Performs efficiently in emergency situations, following protocols, maintaining composure, notifying appropriate personnel, and documenting events.
10. Demonstrates applied knowledge of standards, care resources, protocols, medications, lab values, and clinical references.
11. Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice in accordance with the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
12. Participates in staff development activities and shares knowledge with peers.
13. Engages in self-directed learning and continuing education for professional development.
14. Seeks validation of knowledge, skills, and decision-making when needed.
15. Demonstrates awareness of legal issues and practices in a risk-reducing manner.
16. Participates in unit and departmental goal development and attainment.
17. Participates in development and adherence to standards of care and demonstrates professional judgment in application.
18. Participates in Performance Improvement (PI) activities, including data review and peer monitoring.
19. Coordinates patient care and unit activities among nursing staff, physicians, and support services in care manager and shift leader roles.
20. Demonstrates effective organization, prioritization, and resource management in a time- and cost-efficient manner.
21. Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills in a timely, clear, and professional manner.
22. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
23. Uses appropriate lines of authority for clinical and operational decision-making and issue resolution.
24. Maintains flexibility in staffing assignments and participates in temporary staffing adjustments.
25. Demonstrates problem identification and resolution skills using PI tools and clinical judgment.
26. Applies theory and evidence-based knowledge to clinical practice and demonstrates initiative in learning rationale for actions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Visual acuity to assess patients and use documentation systems.
2. Auditory acuity to hear patient communication and perform auscultation.
3. Manual dexterity to operate equipment and manage invasive lines; ability to ambulate and function for 8–12 hour shifts.
