Description:
The unit has 12 LDRP rooms and 2 triage rooms. There are a total of 12 postpartum beds. The department experiences approximately 700 deliveries per year. Nurse-to-patient ratios follow AWHONN guidelines: 1:1 for labor and 1:3 for couplet care. Common diagnoses include labor (vaginal and cesarean), postpartum cases, and nursery newborns (level II nursery). A Charge RN is present on each shift and does not have a patient assignment.
There are OB techs and unit secretaries available: 1 of each on day shift and 1 OB tech on night shift. A neonatology provider is on-site 24/7. RNs are required to troubleshoot respiratory therapy equipment for level II nursery, with RT assistance for setup. The fetal monitoring system used is an Obix EFM system with Phillips monitors. Shifts are scheduled for 12 hours, either from 7 AM to 7:30 PM or from 7 PM to 7:30 AM.
Every other weekend work is required. RNs must also work every other holiday during designated holiday periods. There is no call or standby requirement. RNs may float hospital-wide as needed to support team nursing models. Scrubs are provided by the hospital. Orientation will consist of 2-3 shifts, depending on the specifics of the unit. The charting system utilized is EPIC.
This position does not require a BSN. The care setting is acute. The trauma level is 2.
