Job Summary

An experienced technician who performs Quality Audits on completed Locating Tickets and is responsible for a variety of tasks related to utility protection for a variety of utility clients. The Watch and Protect technician will be responsible for overseeing contractors digging on and around utility facilities, and monitoring excavation to help prevent damage from being done to critical facilities.

Perform Quality Audits
  • On‑site audits of completed work, including inspection of locate marks and marking standards for accuracy.
  • E‑Sketch documentation.
  • Billing and status codes used.
  • Screen capture and photo documentation review.
  • Scope of the tickets work area completed; focus on accuracy and marking standards while performing the audit.
  • Any serious concerns found during audits should be communicated to the supervisor immediately and addressed while onsite.
Watch & Protect
  • Compares real world conditions to the record documentation to identify errors and omissions.
  • Verifies location of all client facilities within specified dig extents.
  • Watches and protects client facilities within a given area as directed by the client.
  • Understands contractor’s means and methods for subsurface installations.
  • Responsible for monitoring and providing surveillance of critical infrastructure where excavations are known to be taking place or will be taking place soon.
  • Contacting excavators and scheduling with them to monitor critical excavation.
  • Monitoring excavations near critical infrastructure to prevent damage from being done to client facilities.
  • Locates and marks underground facilities using various industry tools, standards and methods, including the use of various locating devices and utility maps.
  • Performs ticket audits to ensure locators are accurately locating facilities and following proper marking procedures.
Company Requirements

In order to obtain employment with Grid Hawk LLC, candidates must complete a background check. Company policy requires no violations within the last 5 years. Candidates must also take and pass a DOT drug test. All employees of Grid Hawk LLC are assigned proper technology and work vehicles in order to perform all work‑related duties.

Tools and Equipment Provided

We will provide you the tools you need to achieve, including:

  • Company vehicle, laptop, and smartphone.
  • Uniforms and all personal protective equipment.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • 2 years of experience in the locating industry.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints at a high level.
  • Multiple years locating and pipeline technician experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work smoothly with citizens, company, contractor representatives, and customers.
  • Good organizational skills to handle many varied tasks at once.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safe worksite practices.
  • Experience with the construction and installation of below‑grade infrastructure and basic maintenance of industry standard locating equipment.
