Department‑Specific Responsibilities- Ensures adherence to library policies regarding circulation, access, and security; develop, implement, and revise procedures and policies.
- Directly manages building security and emergencies in the Wells Library and other library locations across campus; opens and closes the Wells Library and/or branch libraries; ensure all security procedures are followed.
- Determines and declares emergency status as necessary; controls safe evacuation of the building and directs emergency personnel; maintains current and appropriate training to respond to all emergencies.
- Assists in managing the annual bills and fines budget by reconciling cash drawers and safe contents, processing credit card payments, and accepting payments for bill and fine charges.
- Hires, trains, and supervises temporary employees; processes payroll and maintains payroll records.
- Creates and manages patron records in the circulation system ensuring strict adherence to privacy and confidentiality laws and policies, e.g., FERPA.
- Provides reference services both in person and remotely; assists patrons in locating resources and collections; refers patrons to appropriate staff when in-depth assistance is required.
- Manages reserve books and materials requested by faculty; consults with faculty members about item and edition choices, as well as availability.
- Works directly with the public at a service desk.
- Handles and monitors library materials, including re‑shelving, processing new material, restocking, and ensuring that all materials can be located quickly and easily. Evaluates condition of library materials and may perform repair and preservation of library materials, as needed.
- Assists faculty, students, and other patrons by answering phones and handling library‑related issues, resolving non‑routine problems related to library activities.
- Monitors library systems. Creates and updates basic records, maintains automated records, reviewing for completeness and accuracy.
- Collects and collates data, compiles statistics, uses compiled information to prepare unit reports.
- May assist with cataloging new items, performing audits of outstanding items, and/or inter‑library loan materials processing.
- May oversee library department desk and provide training and direction for student employees working the front desk.
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
- 2 years of library experience.
- Customer service and supervisory experience.
- Proficient communication skills.
- Maintains a high degree of professionalism.

- Possesses flexibility to work in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
- Highly thorough and dependable.
- Experience with information systems and web‑based applications, such as databases, online search and discovery tools, and cataloging/metadata applications.

- Cash handling experience.
