About the Office of the Vice President for International Affairs (IU Global). The Vice President for International Affairs and the teams of staff in OVPIA's offices are the stewards of international activity across all campuses of Indiana University. We provide strategic leadership and advocacy for all international programs and projects and coordinate the resources necessary to sustain their growth. Within IU Global, the Office of International Services (OIS) is dedicated to helping international students and scholars achieve their goals. Our staff recruit, admit, and enroll international students from all over the world. We provide social and cultural programming and visa- and immigration‑related advising among other assistance to all international students and scholars. Department‑Specific

Responsibilities
  • Advises and educates IU hiring units across all IU campuses on visa options for international faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Covers Visa Types: B1/B2, H-1B, J-1 scholars, TN, E-3, and O-1 statuses.
  • Ensures legal and regulatory compliance for Indiana University.
  • Serves as a government‑approved Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the U.S. Department of State Exchange Visitor Program.
General Responsibilities
  • Interprets complex U.S. immigration laws, regulations, policies and procedures and exercises professional judgment to advise and counsel Indiana University's international students, scholars, and/or staff on all aspects of their stay in the United States and at the university.
  • Develops and maintains personal and office staff expertise with U.S. laws and regulations governing international students, scholars and/or staff.
  • Plans, develops, schedules, conducts and evaluates programming designed to educate international students, scholars, and/or staff and other IU departments on current U.S. regulations governing international students, scholars, and/or staff.
  • Ensures the required information is reported to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in a timely manner and that necessary immigration documentation needed to maintain legal status of international students, scholars and/or staff is adjudicated accurately and effectively.
  • Serves as liaison to local or state government agencies regarding issues related to international students, scholars, and/or staff.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

Education
  • Required
    :
    Bachelor's degree (preferably in related field).
  • Preferred
    :
    Master's degree.
Work Experience
  • 2 years of international advising/service experience.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The individual in this role must serve as an Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) authorized by the Department of State (DOS). All AROs must meet the requirements as stipulated by DOS to serve in this capacity, including but not limited to either holding US citizenship or lawful permanent residence.
