Job SummaryThe Asian Culture Center Director provides leadership and operational management for the university's cultural center. This role oversees center operations, supervises staff, manages the center budget, and directs programming, staff development, and community engagement initiatives that strengthen the campus experience.
Department Specific Responsibilities- Manages the day-to-day operations of the Asian Culture Center (ACC), ensuring a welcoming, and student-centered environment.
- Oversees the center's budget, including planning, allocation, monitoring, and reporting.
- Ensures alignment of ACC initiatives with divisional and university strategic priorities.
- Maintains the physical space as a hub for community building, cultural celebration, and student support.
- Designs and implements culturally relevant programs that highlight the identities, histories, and experiences of Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander (AAPI).
- Leads signature heritage month celebrations (e.g., Asian Pacific American Heritage Month) and other educational initiatives.
- Facilitates and promotes intercultural workshops, dialogues, and events.
- Partners with faculty and academic units to collaborate on co-curricular learning opportunities.
- Fosters a sense of belonging and community for students.
- Advises and collaborates with student organizations.
- Supports leadership development, exploration, and student success initiatives.
- Provides mentorship and guidance to students.
- Builds and sustains relationships with campus partners, including other cultural centers, student life units, and academic departments.
- Engages with local, regional, and national AAPI organizations and community groups.
- Represents the ACC at university and community events to strengthen visibility and partnerships.
- Collaborates on cross-cultural programming initiatives.
- Develops and implements assessment strategies to evaluate program effectiveness and student engagement.
- Utilizes data to inform decision-making, continuous improvement, and strategic planning.
- Prepares reports and presentations for Student Life leadership and institutional stakeholders.
- Stays informed on trends and research related to AAPI student experiences in higher education.
- Recruits, hires, trains, and supervises professional staff, graduate assistants, and student employees.
- Provides ongoing performance management, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
- Fosters a collaborative, welcoming, and high-performing team culture.
- Establishes clear goals, expectations, and priorities aligned with the ACC mission.
- Develops and implements programs and initiatives that offer support for students in crisis, facing adversity or challenges, or who belong to an under-represented or minority student population.
- Interfaces directly with students by attending student programming events, advising student organization leaders, meeting 1‑on‑1 to discuss support needs, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives. Places an emphasis on confidentiality of student concerns, university policy compliance, and a culture of care within all direct student interactions.
- Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student support goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs and initiatives.
- Projects outcomes for support services offered at the program, department/division, or campus level. Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student support initiatives against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports on impact to students and budget and presents to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
