Job SummaryThe Associate Director of Advancement designs and implements engagement strategies for the Eskenazi School's network of more than 14,000 alumni around the world. This position also plays a critical role in the school's annual fundraising and stewardship strategies, particularly when it comes to cultivating early-stage donors and donor prospects.
Department SpecificJob Responsibilities
- Responsible for stewardship, event planning and implementation, establishing or expanding relationships with donors and alumni, and coordinating with key partners across the school and university.
- Ensure practices follow Eskenazi School, IU Alumni Association, and IU Foundation objectives and policies, and track the advancement budget as part of the planning process.
- Coordinate with the Senior Director of Development, dean, associate director of employer and alumni engagement, and the Eskenazi School's communication team to deliver consistent, high-volume messaging that connects the Eskenazi School mission to regional and national audiences.
- Collaboration and coordination with the Eskenazi Museum of Art development and communication teams as needed.
- Design, implement, and meet the goals and objectives for engaging the Eskenazi School's network of more than 14,000 alumni around the world; create and assess new systems, methods, policies, and protocols in a constantly changing fundraising and alumni relations environment.
- Make frequent judgement calls regarding event management and details, communicate with donors and alumni with care and tone, and represent the school professionally.
- Build personal relationships while making data‑driven decisions.
- Play a key role in relationship building with alumni and donors by interacting with school leadership, faculty, students, and staff; understand the school's goals and initiatives.
- Serve as the primary liaison on all alumni relations matters for the IU Alumni Association, the IU Foundation, and other partner offices throughout the university.
- Cultivate positive and productive working relationships with various internal and external constituents and interact frequently with alumni leadership.
- Provide leadership and follow‑through for projects while working within budget constraints.
- Introduce students to their alumni community, promote student professional development through alumni connections, and create a culture of philanthropy among alumni, future alumni, and friends of the Eskenazi School.
- Maintain donor relationships through segmented stewardship and solicitation messaging, regular communication and outreach, including thank‑you messages and consistent updates on scholarships and gifts.
- Maintain the Crimson database and Workfront or AlumniQ list pulls and solicitation approvals, and forward prospective and current donor information to the director of development.
- Strategically identify and develop engagement strategies that provide opportunities for alumni and contributors to be meaningfully involved in the school's mission; include board service and programs designed to catalyze personal connections with faculty and students.
- Oversee the design and production of alumni‑related marketing and communication, including online, social media, and web content.
- Collaborate with faculty to facilitate Eskenazi School Alumni Board organization, communication, and activities.
- Foster collaborative relationships with faculty and university advancement partners to expand and diversify the alumni network, including mentors, volunteers, annual donors and advocates for the Eskenazi School.
- Track and assess alumni volunteer engagement as a measure of successful advancement of alumni relationships with the university.
- Develop and manage events to strategically engage Eskenazi School alumni and donors.
- Develop and implement events that engage alumni who have the capacity to make early stage and major gifts.
