The IU Center for Rural Engagement seeks a student for a project-based internship in partnership with Indiana Landmarks. The Scholar will interview and transcribe oral histories of some of the oldest Black residents in rural south-central Indiana and document locations of historic significance for digital mapping.
Responsibilities- Conducts and transcribes oral history interviews
- Researches and maps locations of historical significance to rural Indiana history
- Participates in Rural Scholar leadership programming
- Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
- Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) ArcGIS
- Valid driver's license with the ability to be insured by Indiana University
- Proficient communications skills
- Maintains a high degree of professionalism

The role requires the ability to effectively communicate and operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without accommodation.
The internship lasts one academic year, from August through completion in May. Hours are 8 per week.

Hybrid schedule:
Eligible for a mix between remote and in-person work, subject to change based on university policy and business needs.
Hourly rate: $15.00 per hour with a $0.50 raise for each academic semester that the student continues with the CRE in their position.
