The Office of Student Life is focused on building a strong foundation to ensure every student's Indiana University experience is positive, safe, healthy, and meaningful. The Office of Student Life staff and multiple departments aim to help students navigate their time at IU, providing the tools they need to be successful in school and after graduation. Students are our priority, and their health, safety, and overall well‑being are our core mission.
Based on the Bloomington campus of Indiana University, the Asian Culture Center (ACC) aims to promote awareness, understanding, and acceptance of Asian American and Pacific Islander cultures, history, and issues as an integral part of the fabric of American life in the United States. The ACC, a department within OSL, accomplishes this through advocacy, institutional resources, cultural and educational support, and community outreach activities that promote participation and dialogue with students, faculty, staff, and residents of Indiana.
One does not have to be of Asian or Pacific Islander heritage to be involved with the ACC. Everyone is welcome.
The Part‑Time Program Assistant will support the Director in delivering high‑impact cultural, educational, and student engagement initiatives. This position will play a key role in fostering student involvement, promoting departmental activities, and enhancing visibility through various communication channels.
Department‑Specific Responsibilities- Requires a proactive approach to student outreach and programming.
- Plan, coordinate, and manage cultural and educational events that promote student engagement.
- Leads student outreach initiatives, including organizing workshops, coordinating regular meetings with student leaders, and developing programming that supports student success.
- Collaborates with the Office of Student Life Marketing team to manage communications, including social media content, newsletters, website updates, and media inquiries.
- Supports recruitment, supervision, and professional development of student volunteers and staff, with a focus on building leadership and communication skills.
- Assists in developing and implementing communication strategies to promote programs and increase student participation.
- Provides general administrative support, including staffing and opening the center, and serving as a point of contact for students and visitors.
- Bachelor's degree in Humanities, Education, Nonprofit Management, Journalism, or relevant fields
- Master's degree in Student Affairs, Nonprofit Management, or other relevant academic discipline
- Experience with event planning or program coordination
- Professional experience advising and creating leadership development opportunities for students and/or student organizations
- Experience in teaching and curriculum development
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Familiarity with social media and digital communication tools
- Ability to collaborate and work well in a team environment
- Prior knowledge and awareness of AAPI cultures, history, and contemporary issues
- Ability to demonstrate empathy, problem‑solving, professional boundaries, and conflict resolution skills
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
