Academic Advisor – Ivy Tech Bloomington

Salary Range: $42,000 - $45,000.

We are looking for a dedicated Academic Advisor to join our collaborative team. In this role, you will provide personalized academic advising to help students define and achieve their goals, using a case management approach.

• Demonstrate strong commitment to student development and success through advocacy, positive attitude, adaptability, approachability, problem solving, and support.
• Provide developmental academic advising that assists students in clarifying personal and academic career goals through appropriate theories of student development, human development, and learning.
• Assist students in interpreting and understanding placement scores, program curricula, and prerequisites; help them gain a basic understanding of the College’s registration processes.
• Maintain current knowledge of the institution’s academic programs, curricula, practices, and policies; coordinate with Student Affairs and Academic Affairs to ensure accuracy of advising materials.
• Possess working knowledge of student financial assistance programs.
• Manage academic advising caseload to promote retention, persistence, and student success through proactive interactions and interventions.
• Assist students in developing an Academic Completion Plan; monitor progress through regular meetings, communications, interventions, assessments, and data collection.
• Maintain advising records in compliance with College policies and FERPA.
• Develop and maintain relationships with students, faculty, and staff; utilize communication plans to engage the college community in the advising process.
• Create an inclusive environment that values, supports, and respects all people.
• Engage in professional development opportunities, professional organizations, and college-wide committees.
• Attend and participate in registration fairs (on‑campus/in‑person).

• Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, counseling, social work, or related field.
• Master’s degree in college student personnel, higher education, counseling psychology, or related discipline preferred.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in academic advising, admissions, career counseling, or related higher education area required; or one (1) year of experience with a Master’s degree.
• Preferred: one to two years of relevant experience demonstrating leadership qualities.
• Community college experience or credential preferred.
• Experience working with diverse populations and commitment to diversity.
• Excellent communication and time‑management skills and ability to work collaboratively.
• Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, email, and database applications, including student records systems and online social media tools.
• Administrative and organizational skills with strong customer‑service attributes.
