Position Summary:

The Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism (ISCA), housed within the Robert

A. and Sandra S. Borns Jewish Studies Program at Indiana University Bloomington, invites applications for the Leslie J. Raffel Chair in Antisemitism Studies. The appointment will be at the rank of Research Professor (open rank, with preference for associate or full professor). It is expected to begin January 1, 2027, for a term of up to five years, subject to review, with potential consideration for renewal.

The Raffel Chair represents a significant investment in advancing Indiana University's global leadership in the interdisciplinary study of antisemitism. We seek a widely recognized scholar, in any academic discipline, whose work addresses the most urgent contemporary forms of antisemitism. The occupant of the Chair is expected to be fully conversant with the long history of anti-Jewish hostility while maintaining a primary focus on the most consequential present-day expressions of hostility directed against Jews, Judaism, and the State of Israel.

The Chair will provide intellectual leadership at the highest level—strengthening research initiatives, convening scholars across disciplines, expanding strategic partnerships, and pursuing external funding to advance major projects. This is a full-time research appointment.

Basic Qualifications:

Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field, an established record of significant scholarly achievement focused on antisemitism, demonstrated expertise in contemporary manifestations of antisemitism, evidence of sustained research productivity

Preferred Qualifications:

Senior scholarly standing, record of successful external grant funding, demonstrated capacity for intellectual leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration, experience mentoring graduate students and advanced undergraduate students. Scholars from the humanities, social sciences, law, media studies, political science, psychology, sociology, history, religious studies, and related fields are encouraged to apply.

Salary and Rank:
Minimum salary, $75,000; final salary commensurate with rank, qualifications, and experience.
