Department Information

The Center for Behavior and Systems Innovation (CBSI), buildingupon the nationally recognized HANDS in Autism model established in2004, advances implementation of evidence-based practices through training, consultation, systems innovation, resource development,and community-engaged research. The Center builds "local capacity"by partnering with autistic individuals, families, educators,healthcare providers, employers, community organizations, and state agencies to improve outcomes across educational, healthcare,employment, justice, and community settings. Guided by the philosophy that evidence-based practices are "Essential for autism,beneficial for all," CBSI develops practical tools, professional learning opportunities, implementation supports, and resources that strengthen systems serving individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), neurodevelopmental disabilities, behavioral health needs, and broader communities.

Through interdisciplinary collaboration, implementation science, and responsive partnerships,the Center remains agile in addressing emerging community,statewide, national, and international needs while advancing

Job Summary

Training Specialists within the Center for Behavior and Systems Innovation (CBSI) serve as implementation specialists who buildupon the nationally recognized HANDS in Autism model to provide education, consultation, technical assistance, programming, and resource development that strengthen local capacity across Indiana and beyond.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
  • Works alongside researchers, instructional designers, navigators, data specialists, operations staff, and community partners, they support implementation of evidence-based practices across educational, healthcare, employment, justice, and communitysettings.
  • Through direct consultation, professional learning,implementation support, and development of practical resources,
  • Helps improve outcomes for autistic individuals and others withneurodevelopmental, behavioral, and mental health support needs while advancing Indiana University's missions of teaching,research, and service.
  • Designs, develops, and delivers professional learning opportunities, workshops, consultation, and technical assistance for educators, families, providers, healthcare professionals,employers, and community organizations.
  • Develops and updates evidence-based training materials,implementation resources, and educational tools responsive to community and partner needs.
  • Supports statewide, national, and international training initiatives that promote implementation of evidence-based practices.
  • Contributes to newsletters, online learning communities,webinars, and outreach efforts that support dissemination of Centerresources and innovations.
  • Conducts assessments, support action planning, facilitateimplementation, and monitor progress for individuals, collaborativesites, and community partners.
  • Provides consultation, direct programming, implementation support, and resource navigation across educational, healthcare,employment, justice, and community settings.
  • Supports Ask-Learn-Share offerings, Learning Labs,collaborative partnerships, and other Center initiatives that strengthen local capacity.
  • Develops and updates practical tools, resource guides, and implementation materials that support individuals across the lifespan.
  • Maintains timely documentation, correspondence, and communication with caregivers, referral sources, providers, and interdisciplinary project teams.
  • Supports externally funded initiatives, implementation projects, and community-engaged research activities.
  • Collaborates with instructional designers, marketing and communications staff, navigators, operations staff, dataspecialists, and subject matter experts to develop, review, anddisseminate evidence-based resources.
  • Reviews, catalogs, organizes, and continuously updates Centermaterials while maintaining an efficient registry and monitoring system that ensures resources remain current, accessible,appropriately formatted, version-controlled, and readily available across Center initiatives.
  • Translates research findings into practical tools, educational materials, and implementation supports that respond to emergingcommunity needs.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert in assigned topical areas and contribute ideas that strengthen Center programming, innovation,and sustainability.
  • Completes required university and research compliancetrainings.
  • Contributes to development and continuous improvement of Center procedures and standard operating practices.
  • Assists with data collection, reporting, quality improvement,and evaluation activities.
  • Supports pre-service student learning and interdisciplinary training opportunities.
  • Maintains project timelines, calendars, communications, and coordination across Center initiatives.
