Job Summary

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Learning and Community Engagement team at the Indiana University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (IUMAA) to provide administrative and creative support to assist with the creative and practical aspects of education work.
  • Assists with community focused programs, tour development and delivery, and outreach education.
  • May also require educational material creation and support.
  • Assist in the development, scheduling, and implementation of community programs, P-12 tours, and university tours/programs. Stay abreast of best practices in museum education and trends in P-12 education. Utilize departmental best practices to create or facilitate family craft days, performances, story hours, or other activities for community members of all ages.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of staff-led tour program, conducting trainings and creating curricula materials for highest quality of offerings.
  • Conduct outreach visits to schools, community organizations, campus units, and other various groups as requested.
  • Assist in the creation and development of in-gallery/exhibition interpretation and interactives, such as sensory kits, gallery guides, and experiential opportunities.
  • Maintains departmental materials, correspondences, and other records.
  • Coordinates with other Museum departments to accomplish identified goals.

General Responsibilities

  • Creates, implements, and evaluates experiences that connect audiences with the university, including local and rural outreach, campus, summer camps, home school events, teacher professional development workshops, and family programming.
  • Supports the activities of other university departments with expertise on the audience desired. Maintains affiliations with colleagues within academic universities locally and nationally.
  • Develops and conducts training of a pool of educators who can facilitate programs. Develops and conducts training for tours with docents.
  • Manages the daily operation of programs in accordance with the university's strategic plans. Develops and manages educational experience budget(s). Oversees online content and technology.
  • Seeks sources of funding and works with development staff to develop proposals and annual reports.
  • Provides process improvement suggestions to supervisor.

EDUCATION Required
  • Bachelor's degree in education or other related field
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in museum studies, anthropology, folklore, history
WORK EXPERIENCE Required
  • 2 years in education, fine arts, or other related field experience.
Preferred
  • 1 year of museum programming, outreach.
  • Experience in an office setting or customer service setting in a high profile, high impact, and fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. Ability to move items up to 50 pounds. Exposure to dust and mold is a possibility. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$55,000.00 - $60,000.00 on an annualized basis.
