Responsibilities

  • Manage, supervise, inspect, and coordinate new construction and remodeling projects on assigned campuses; monitor construction timelines to ensure contractors maintain accurate schedules and perform to university standards.
  • Review and approve contractors' billing performance, and when necessary, elevate complex project issues to higher‑level Construction and Planning Specialists or managers.
  • Review engineering drawings and specifications; serve as project coordinator with architects, engineers, contractors, and administrators.
  • Approve shop drawings and as‑built drawings for university archives and Physical Plant use.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to administrators and concerned parties on project cost analyses and alternatives after bids are submitted.
  • Advise interior designers on special circumstances and facility requirements; assist architects and engineers with contract change orders for new functions, unforeseeable conditions, code requirements, or design refinements.
  • Maintain documentation of all assigned projects with IU‑issued software, including timelines, schedules, substantial completion, and other construction elements.

Education
  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., HSED or GED)
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field
Work Experience
  • Experience in construction management and/or large‑format planning, with scope including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
Licenses and Certificates
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.

Physical Requirements

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate; frequently requires handling equipment; frequently requires remaining stationary and ascending/descending ladders or stairs; requires moving objects up to 25 lb; requires detecting items in close proximity and at a distance, discerning color and detail, and maintaining good depth perception. The employee must be able to perform all essential functions with or without accommodation.
