We are seeking a Lab Automation Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team which spans mechanical, electrical, materials, robotics, AI, and software engineering. In this role, you will accelerate our materials research by designing and building automated testing systems for adobe mixtures. This is an on-site role based in Bloomington, Indiana, ideal for someone who enjoys working hands‑on with both hardware and software, and is passionate about sustainability and experimental design.
You’ll play a key role in developing test rigs, control systems, and data pipelines that enable high-throughput experimentation and analysis.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build automated test rigs for compression, moisture, and thermal testing.
- Develop control software for lab equipment including peristaltic pumps, load cells, and sensors.
- Create robust data pipelines from sensors to databases for real‑time monitoring and analysis.
- Design experiments and analyze results to inform materials development.
- Collaborate with materials scientists and engineers to iterate on testing protocols.
Required Qualifications
- Experience with lab automation, test equipment, or experimental systems.
- Comfortable working with both software (e.g., Python, control systems) and basic hardware.
- Ability to work independently from concept through completion.
- Interest in materials science, sustainability, and experimental design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with sensor integration and data acquisition systems.
- Experience with mechanical design or prototyping.
- Exposure to materials testing or construction technologies.
- Background in engineering, physics, or applied sciences.
