IUB HOTEL (BA-IUBH-IUBLA)

The Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) has been the heart of the Indiana University Bloomington campus for more than 100 years. Every day thousands of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests enjoy the many amenities and opportunities the IMU has to offer. The Indiana Biddle Hotel and Conference Center operates 2 parking lots, 1 adjacent to and another across from the building, used by visitors to the IMU, the hotel, campus, and for special events.

The 189-room IU Biddle Hotel is the largest hotel in Bloomington, Indiana, the only hotel on campus, and a living embodiment of Hoosier hospitality. Visitors enjoy upscale, convenient accommodations and parking as well as on‑site amenities including the Vault Pub, live music, bowling, Starbucks, a 2‑level bookstore, charming outdoor dining spaces, and international food from local restaurants all in the heart of campus, steps away from the best dining, shopping, arts, and entertainment at IU and in the city of Bloomington.

Department‑Specific

Responsibilities
  • Attends parking lots and facilities to collect fees from visitors. May apply discounts through coupons or validation; may direct fees through IU department billing.
  • Maintains professionalism in adverse or stressful situations.
  • Provides positive customer service by answering visitor questions regarding directions, parking policies, and event information.
  • Operates and monitors computer, cash drawer, and parking gates.
  • Monitors equipment for proper function of printers, cash drawers, card readers, ticket dispensers, and computers.
  • Informs supervisor of infractions to departmental policy, damage to equipment, or breakdown of equipment.
  • Counts and reconciles cash from drawer in preparation for daily deposit and completes written reports of daily activity.
  • Maintains general upkeep and cleanliness of parking booth and parking facilities.
Education Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
Skills Required
  • Proficient communication skills.
  • Proficient in cash and cash drawer handling.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism.
  • Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills.
  • Demonstrates a high commitment to quality.
  • Ability to deal with many tasks concurrently, including irate customers, giving correct change, answering questions, and reporting problems.
  • Ability to read and learn parking regulations, departmental procedures and policies, and give customers correct information.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 10 pounds. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
