The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest academic unit at Indiana University Bloomington. It is composed of 40plus departments, 50 plus Centers, Programs, and Institutes, while also including the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design, the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, and The Media School. Faculty in the College teach over 50 percent of the Indiana University (Bloomington) credit hours and the College occupies about 1.3 million square feet of space in 90 plus buildings on the Bloomington campus.
Department-SpecificResponsibilities
- Serves as a central leader in the College's financial operations, providing strategic leadership for budget planning, financial reporting, financial analysis, and fiscal stewardship in support of the College's academic and administrative priorities.
- Leads the College's budget development and oversight processes, develops financial reporting and analysis to inform executive decision-making, and provides strategic financial guidance to departments, ARSD units, and senior leadership.
- Serves as the lead fiscal officer for the Arts and Sciences Dean's Office (ARSD), providing leadership, oversight, and direction for the financial operations of all ARSD units. This includes ensuring sound fiscal stewardship, compliance with university policies, effective internal controls, and responsible management of financial resources.
- Promotes consistent financial practices across the College by fostering collaboration among the fiscal officer community through communication, training, shared resources, and standardized tools that support effective financial management and informed decision-making.
- Leads and continuously improves the College's budgeting system and annual budget process, including budget development, implementation, forecasting, and budget-to-actual analysis.
- Coordinates the annual budget process across departments and ARSD units, develops budget models and planning tools, monitors financial performance throughout the fiscal year, and recommend budget adjustments to support strategic priorities and ensure fiscal stewardship.
- Develops, standardizes, and delivers financial reports, dashboards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and other financial information to support decision-making by College and university leadership.
- Prepares recurring and ad hoc reports, presentations, and analyses that communicate the College's financial position, trends, and resource utilization.

- Serves as the lead fiscal officer for the Arts and Sciences Dean's Office (ARSD).
- Provides oversight and direction for the financial operations of all ARSD units.
- Ensures funds are budgeted appropriately, expended in accordance with university policies and the intended purpose of each account, and reconciled accurately on a timely basis.
- Maintains or delegates signature authority for financial transactions while ensuring appropriate internal controls and fiscal practices are in place.
- Reviews departmental financial processes, recommend improvements, communicate institutional policy changes, and provides ongoing fiscal guidance to unit personnel.
- Monitors compliance, identifies financial risks or irregularities, and notifies senior College leadership of issues requiring corrective action while working with units to implement appropriate resolutions.
- Directs the daily and long-term financial and/or administrative operations of multiple institution organizational units or a multi-faceted academic research and teaching unit within a school or college.
- Responsible for accuracy, timelines, and the general integrity of the Financial Administration family.
- Controls all expenditures and statement of accounts to ensure regulatory compliance and fiscal integrity.
- Manages complex revenues including internal and external sources.
- Directs the management of general appropriation, endowment, federal and non-federal grants and contracts, and gift funds.
- Prepares operating and project budget drafts. Creates annual revenue and expenditure budget for school or support unit.
- Monitors functional area budgets and reports any significant deviations from approved budgets. Develops budgetary policies and procedures.
- Responsible for supervising business support personnel.
- Develops, plans, and directs special projects, which may include space renovations, space allocations, staffing, equipment purchases, long-range plans, leasing of off-campus space and services.
