Indiana University (IU) is seeking an Executive Director of Web and Digital Strategy to lead the university's marketing and communications digital ecosystem across a large, multi-campus environment. This role is responsible for shaping and advancing a cohesive, scalable digital strategy that improves constituent experience, strengthens the university's digital presence, and enables campus partners to deliver high‑quality, user‑centered digital experiences. Specific Responsibilities
  • Operates as both a strategist and connector, the Executive Director leads with a systems‑thinking mindset balancing central governance with distributed execution and partners across campuses and units to ensure digital platforms, standards, and services are aligned, sustainable, and adaptable to future needs.
  • Reports to the Associate Vice President of Marketing and serves as a senior leader within University Communications and Marketing (UCM) to advance the university's long‑term goals.
  • Provides executive leadership and oversight for the university's enterprise approach to constituent experience (prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external audiences); digital strategy and roadmap development; web strategy, governance, and platform evolution; search experience including findability, content architecture, and optimization.
  • Champions a constituent‑first, data‑informed approach that delivers accessible, inclusive, and consistent digital experiences across university systems, driving brand engagement and revenue‑related outcomes while using shared principles and insights to continuously improve performance and impact.
  • Provides executive oversight of the university's web ecosystem by defining scalable platforms, governance, and content models that balance system‑wide consistency with campus flexibility and long‑term sustainability.
  • Leads enterprise search and discoverability strategy to ensure audiences can easily find information across complex digital environments, establishing scalable standards for SEO, AIO, information architecture, and internal search.
  • Builds strong partnerships across campuses and units to align priorities, enable distributed teams, and drive adoption of shared digital frameworks through influence rather than direct authority.
  • Designs and oversees scalable digital service models that reduce duplication, standardize tools and practices where appropriate, and enable efficient, high‑quality support across multiple campuses.
  • Continues to improve digital governance, while defining and refining success metrics and accountability models that support agility and continuous improvement, ensuring compliance with accessibility, privacy, security, data governance, and brand standards.
  • Leads and develops a high‑performing digital team by fostering collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning while effectively stewarding resources and priorities for university‑wide impact.
  • Advances data‑driven leadership by embedding analytics and evidence‑based decision‑making into UCM initiatives including the management of shared metrics and reporting; strengthens data quality and integration through cross‑campus/unit partnerships; and building digital literacy so teams can use insights to inform content, design, and platform decisions.
  • Provides executive leadership and mentorship for Web and Digital Strategy team by setting strategic direction and priorities.
  • Guides and develops people leaders; oversees talent planning and staffing needs; and ensures teams are aligned to scalable, data‑driven digital and constituent experience goals.
  • Collaborates with senior leadership to develop plans, incorporate inputs, and integrate digital initiatives into the broader business strategy of the university.
