Job SummaryThe Manager in Training supports the Branch Manager in day‑to‑day operations and works closely with the Technical and Marketing Departments to prepare and organize daily work. The role requires strong management skills, including problem solving, communication, leadership, time management, and team building. Every task contributes to delivering great service to our customers by training lawn technicians in a timely, cost‑effective manner.
Responsibilitiesand Duties
- Ensures a safe workplace for all employees through ongoing training and adherence to company policies
- Maintains quality control compliance to meet service standards according to company policy
- Plans and conducts new hire and ongoing training for lawn service personnel in customer service, technical skills, safety policies and procedures
- Effectively coaches, trains, and develops future leaders within the department
- Works with administration and management to facilitate recruitment, interviewing, and selection of talent that fits our company culture
- Tracks daily, weekly, and monthly goals established in the Business Plan
- Manages progressive discipline and accountability standards consistent with company policy
- Conducts performance reviews and partners with peers to support goal achievements
- Conducts daily and weekly production department meetings
- Conducts pre/post trip vehicle inspections
- Ensures current licensing is maintained by all department employees as required by company policy/state and/or federal law
- Recruits and trains Door Knockers for the marketing season
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent leadership skills in team building, talent selection, training, mentoring, executing goals, and developing future leaders
- Excellent time management skills
- Practical knowledge of the lawn service industry and experience in developing and executing production plans
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of leadership and with front‑line staff
- Ability to conduct difficult conversations
- Great self‑awareness
- Mechanical aptitude (a plus, but not required)
- Business process analysis skills
- Computer skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- One to two or more years of related experience in lawn, horticulture, agronomy, or lawn care services preferred
- Certificates, licenses, and registrations required by federal and state law; must possess or obtain as a requirement
- Valid, permanent driver’s license from state of residence and a clean driving record per company standards
- Sit or stand
- Walk on uneven surfaces or climb stairs for extended periods
- Use hands and arms to handle, feel, or reach
- Speak and hear
- Use vision for close, distance, color, peripheral, depth, and focus
- Lift up to 50 lbs independently
- Push and pull equipment
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- Be subjected to outdoor weather conditions (cold, extreme heat, wet conditions)
- Be exposed to animals and insects
- Be exposed to chemicals with appropriate safety equipment
- Occasionally work near mechanical or moving parts
