The Project Controls - Vice President, Practice Area Lead is a senior executive responsible for the strategic direction, growth, and operational excellence of a defined consulting practice. This role combines technical leadership, market insight, and business acumen to ensure the practice delivers exceptional value to clients while scaling sustainably. The Practice Leader spearhe ads the development of service offerings, drives innovation, ensures delivery quality, and builds the talent pipeline necessary to support long‑term growth.
This individual is a visible thought leader both internally and externally, shaping the company’s reputation in the market and influencing the evolution of consulting capabilities across the organization.
The Practice Leader serves as both a market-facing thought leader and an internal technical steward. They collaborate closely with Regional VPs, Principal Consultants, and Client Engagement leaders to ensure the practice delivers high‑value results, supports business growth, and builds the company’s brand and reputation. This role will be expected to be 40-45% billable on active projects within accounts to maintain visibility, support project launches, and guide executive‑level touchpoints.
Key Responsibilities Practice Strategy & Ownership- Define and execute a multi-year strategic roadmap for the practice, aligned with company-wide goals and market trends.
- Own the lifecycle of service offerings—from ideation and development to launch, refinement, and retirement.
- Conduct competitive benchmarking and market analysis to ensure offerings remain differentiated and relevant.
- Lead annual practice planning, including revenue targets, innovation priorities, and capability development.
- Establish and enforce delivery standards, methodologies, and quality assurance protocols across all practice engagements.
- Lead the development of reusable assets, playbooks, and accelerators to improve delivery efficiency and consistency.
- Conduct regular project audits and post-mortems to identify lessons learned and drive continuous improvement.
- Partner with delivery and operations teams to ensure optimal resource allocation and project staffing.
- Continuously expand subject‑matter expertise across life sciences project controls, including:
- Capital project management (CAPEX) for new and existing facilities
- Facility shutdowns and turnarounds
- Technology transfers
- Enterprise system integrations
- Validation Life Cycle (CQV, PV, CSV)
- Quality, Regulatory, and Compliance frameworks
- GxP automated systems
- Quality Control (construction & commercial)
- Operational readiness and startup
- Provide expert analysis of complex project data and deliver clear, strategic insights that drive executive level decision‑making.
- Independently develop and oversee high‑quality project controls deliverables, including reports, dashboards, and management summaries.
- Integrate and validate inputs from Project Coordinators, field teams, and cross functional stakeholders while maintaining full accountability for final project controls outputs.
- Communicate critical project information with clarity and urgency, ensuring field decisions are translated into long‑range schedule, cost, and resource impacts.
- Offer hands‑on technical support to clients navigating the engineering life cycle of advanced equipment and manufacturing systems.
- Lead the design and implementation of comprehensive project tools such as site level dashboards, integrated schedules, and deliverable tracking systems.
- Conduct rigorous due diligence and quality assurance reviews to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance of all project controls deliverables.
- Proactively identify risks, roadblocks, and performance gaps; elevate appropriately and apply advanced problem‑solving skills to develop innovative solutions.
- Identify, mentor, and develop high‑potential consultants within the practice to build future leadership capacity.
- Collaborate with HR and Talent Acquisition to define hiring profiles, support recruitment, and guide onboarding.
