Position: RN
- Ambulatory Team Lead

Shift: (3) 12 hour shifts
- Required to staff 2 days/week (40% administration/60% Clinical)

Position Overview

The RN-Ambulatory Team Lead reflects IU Health’s mission, vision, and values, adhering to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance. This role is responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care across the outpatient setting, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The Team Lead serves as the lead clinical nurse, coordinating with leaders, providers, and team members to deliver exemplary care to all patients.

The nurse ensures compliance with all policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and professional nursing standards, including the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Operations Management:
    Direct daily workflows, ensure efficient patient throughput, and manage clinical resources in a cost-effective manner. Resolve daily operational issues, manage schedules and timecards, and facilitate department meetings and huddles. Rounds on patients and team members and serves as a positive role model for staff.
  • Leadership, Staff Supervision, and Development:
    Lead a team of RNs, LPNs, and Medical Assistants. Create work schedules, conduct performance reviews, develop action plans, provide mentorship and coaching, and identify educational needs in coordination with RN-TL educator and CNS.
  • Regulatory Compliance, Safety, and Quality:
    Ensure the clinic meets all Joint Commission and state regulatory requirements. Lead quality improvement initiatives, safety audits, key metrics, and process improvement. Enforce medical record documentation guidelines and uphold all policies.
  • Patient Care Advocacy:
    Monitor patient flow and resolve patient or family concerns promptly through service recovery.
  • Administrative Liaison:
    Communicate between clinical staff and department leadership, identify potential policy changes, and report on department productivity.
  • Hiring and Onboarding:
    Manage the recruitment process for new clinical staff and oversee orientation and competency training in collaboration with RN-TL educator and CNS.
  • Clinical Support:
    Perform all duties of an RN (vitals, injections, nursing procedures, specimens, lab draws, line access, etc.) and provide oversight to ensure safe, evidence-based patient care.
  • Problem Solving:
    Address patient issues and team challenges.
  • Resource Stewardship:
    Manage clinical supplies, oversee equipment maintenance, assist in monitoring the department budget, and conduct charge audits.
  • Supports Staff:
    Build a strong, positive team environment and foster open communication to maintain low turnover.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    Optimize patient experience through commitment to mission, values, and vision.
  • Other Duties as Assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education
    • Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ASN) required.
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Licensure & Certifications
    • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
    • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per department policies.
  • Experience & Skills
    • Two years of clinical experience preferred.
    • Knowledge of outpatient procedures, equipment, and supplies.
    • Ability to coordinate multiple functions effectively for a group of patients.
    • Understanding of the legal implications of nursing activities and performance standards.
