Unit Details- Number of beds on unit: 30
- Patient population: 18‑year‑old and older
- Patient to RN ratio: 4‑6 patients to 1 RN
- Oncology nursing support:
Oncology Nursing Society, Active Department Shared Governance, Mentor/Mentee Program for New Grads and for those pursuing Oncology Nursing Certification - Skills/Equipment: inpatient chemotherapy and radiation, palliative and end‑of‑life care, general medical patient care
- Certifications:
Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) – Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR)
Performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. Maintains up‑to‑date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure integration of information for use by the healthcare team. Completes initial assessment upon patient admission and develops appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards and based on patient and family needs. Implements plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
Modifies plan of care based upon continuous responsibility for patient and employee safety, reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. Communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. Appropriately performs patient care duties such as head‑to‑toe assessments, starting IVs, inserting NG tubes, dressing changes, administering medications, inserting Foley catheters, accessing and maintaining Mediports throughout the shift.
Maintains documentation standards as evidenced by passed quarterly chart audits. Provides emotional support to patients and their families. Administers chemotherapy/biotherapy to patients on the oncology unit and throughout the hospital.
• Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) with IDFPR license
• Experience in oncology or related inpatient care
• Ability to perform the responsibilities listed above
