Description
Oliver Winery, home to the #2 Best Tasting Room in the country is looking to bring on a Seasonal Landscape team member to help maintain our beautiful grounds. We are looking for someone who loves to work outdoors, takes great pride in their work, and is a strong team partner. This role will run for six months (starting in late March/early April into September) and can be up to 40 hours per week.
OverviewThe Seasonal Landscape Team works under the direction of the Landscape Manager to maintain Oliver Winery's high standards with regard to the guest experience. Specifically in the appearance, safety, comfort, beauty, and functionality of the landscape. Team members will work and contribute to all areas of Oliver Winery's diverse gardens and natural areas, comprised of manicured garden beds, naturalized plantings, woodlands, lawn, seasonal displays and a demonstration vineyard.
EssentialFunctions & Responsibilities:
- Performs daily and seasonal garden/landscape maintenance tasks including: planting, weeding, mulching, irrigation, pruning, trimming, mowing and fertilization as directed by the Landscape Manager.
- Assists the Landscape Manager with monitoring and identifying safety hazards and needed repairs in the landscape.
- Assists with the maintenance and repair of hardscapes and paths.
- Assists with the application of Deer and Rabbit repellent.
- Assists with pest and disease monitoring and management in the garden and landscape.
- Assists with shop projects related to the upkeep of landscape equipment and landscape features such as planting containers, picnic benches, signage, etc.
- Assists with the installation and maintenance of seasonal display elements including specialized landscape or container plantings, arrangements, and interior decor.
- Maintains the landscape and property free of trash and debris.
- Interacts with customers and staff in a friendly and considerate way in an effort to enhance guest experience and promote the landscape and gardens at Oliver Winery.
- Assists in other areas of winery operation when needed or directed.
- High School Diploma.
- Interest in working for a premier winery in the Midwest with a desire and ability to assist in the seasonal maintenance and upkeep of exceptional gardens which are an indispensable component of our guest experience.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to be insured on company vehicles.
- Must be on-time to work and reliable.
- Must wear appropriate work attire to include close-toed shoes and provided Oliver Winery logo shirt.
- Must be able to routinely perform physical labor in a variety of outdoor environments and weather.
- Previous work experience in horticulture, landscape or a related field.
- Previous experience operating tools and equipment used in landscape work including hand tools and power equipment.
- Experience operating a Zero turn and walk behind mower.
- Basic understanding of Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
- Familiarity with common landscape plants of the Midwest and their care.
- Willingness to learn about and safely apply pesticides with supervision by the Landscape Manager.

This position may be exposed to wet or humid conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, power equipment, chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions. The position requires lifting a minimum of 50 lbs., standing for long periods and repetitive bending/kneeling.
Typical ScheduleTypical work week is Monday-Friday, approximately 35-40 hours (weather dependent). This is a seasonal position and will run no longer than six months.
