Associate Veterinarian
Serving Monroe County since 1956, the Monroe County Humane Association (MCHA) is a 501c3 charitableorganizationdedicatedtopromotingthewelfareofcompanionanimals,strengthening the human-animal bond,andprovidingaccesstoveterinarycareandhumaneeducationacrossthe community.
Position Summary:
The Associate Veterinarian provides compassionate, practical veterinary care focused on each patient’s medicalneedsandthecircumstancesofthefamilycaringforthem.
Thispositionmayincludewellness care,sick visits,diagnostics,chronicdiseasemanagement,spayandneutersurgery,limited additional surgery, and end-of-life care.
Weunderstandthatclientsmayfacenancialorpersonalbarriers.
Ourveterinarianshelpfamilies understandtheiroptionsanddeveloprealistictreatmentplansthatprotecttheanimal’shealthwhile respecting the client’s circumstances.
The Associate Veterinarianworkscloselywith MCHA’sMedical
Director,veterinary technicians, assistants,administrative staff,outreach team,andnonprotleadership.
Full-time,part-time,andrelief arrangementsmaybeconsideredbasedontheveterinarian’sinterestsandMCHA’sneeds.
Essential Position Duties & Responsibilities:
- Examine,diagnose,andtreatcompanionanimals,specicallycats&dogs.
- Developappropriatetreatmentplansandclearlyexplainoptions,costs,andfollow-upcareto clients.
- Performandinterpretdiagnostictesting,includingradiographyandlaboratorytesting.
- Prescribemedicationsandprovidepreventiveandongoingmedicalcare.
- Performspayandneuterproceduresandothersurgeriesconsistentwiththeveterinarian’s experience.
- Maintaincompleteandaccuratemedicalrecords.
- Providecompassionateend-of-lifecarewhentreatmentisnolongereffectiveorappropriate.
- CollaboratewithstafftosupportpetsservedthroughMCHA’sclinic,Crisis Housing,Street Outreach, and community programs.
- Follow professional,ethical,safety,and controlled-substance standards.
- Contributetoarespectful,supportive,and mission-focused workplace.
Qualications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Licensedoreligibleforlicensuretopracticeveterinarymedicine in Indiana.
- Strongclinicaljudgmentandcommitmenttopatientwelfare.
- Compassionate and respectful communication with clients from a wide range of circumstances.
- Abilitytoworkcollaborativelywithveterinaryandnonprotteammembers.
- CommitmenttoaccessibleveterinarycareandMCHA’smission.
- Experience with Avimarkishelpfulbutnotrequired.
- Newgraduatesandexperiencedveterinariansareencouragedtoapply.

Youwilluseyourveterinaryskillstocareforanimalswhomay otherwisegowithouttreatmentwhileservingfamiliesandcommunitiesthroughout

Central Indiana.
Thisroleofferstheopportunitytopracticeveterinarymedicineinanonprotsettingwherecommunity impact and patient needs guide the work.
Compensation and Benets:
Full-timecompensationstartsat $110,000annuallyandincreasesbasedonexperience,schedule,and services provided,includingsurgicalcare.
Parttimeandreliefcompensationbasedonhoursworked, experience and services provided.
