DepartmentDepartment of Chemistry, College of Arts & Sciences, Indiana University
LocationBloomington, IN
Position SummaryThe Department of Chemistry at Indiana University offers a dynamic research environment encompassing analytical, organic, inorganic, physical, materials chemistry, and biochemistry. The Zaleski Laboratory is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to design and synthesize hybrid molecular and nanomaterial catalysts. The role involves deep synthetic chemistry – both inorganic and organic ligand chemistry – and may include nanomaterial design for catalysis. Candidates with a Ph.D. in any synthetic chemistry area and strong solution‑phase synthesis experience will be considered.
Responsibilities- Manage own academic research and administrative activities, coordinating multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.
- Adapt existing or develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols to achieve research objectives.
- Use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment.
- Assist in setting up a new research laboratory at IU (e.g., establishing Schlenk lines, ordering equipment).
- Contribute ideas for new research projects.
- Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and write up results for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles, and occasionally present papers and posters.
- Act as a source of information and advice to other group members on scientific protocols and experimental techniques.
- Represent the research group at external meetings and seminars, independently or with other members.
- Carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions and research groups.
- Ph.D. in Chemistry
- Experience with organometallic synthesis and relevant analytical techniques (e.g., NMR, SXRD, mass‑spectrometry).
- Deep understanding of organic and/or inorganic synthesis.
- Familiarity with solution‑phase synthesis, purification, and characterization of starting materials and reaction products using standard techniques (NMR, IR, mass spectrometry, X‑ray diffraction, TEM) and DFT calculations (desirable).
US $50,000 plus benefits.
Application ProcessSubmit cover letter, CV, a maximum 5‑page research proposal, and contact information for three references to Applications will be reviewed upon receipt.
