Position Summary

The Department of Chemistry in the College of Arts + Sciences at Indiana University has a well‑rounded research community with expertise across various disciplines. The Zaleski Lab is inviting applications for a postdoctoral research position focused on the design and synthesis of hybrid molecular and nanomaterial catalysts. The position involves synthetic and photochemical transformations, laser characterization methods, and advanced materials characterization.

Motivated candidates with a Ph.D. in chemistry and a strong background in catalyst synthesis and materials design are preferred. The desired start date is July 1 2026, but may be flexible for outstanding candidates.

Responsibilities
  • Manage own academic research and administrative activities, coordinating projects to meet deadlines.
  • Adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols to achieve research objectives.
  • Use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment.
  • Assist in setting up a new research laboratory, including Schlenk lines, equipment ordering, etc.
  • Contribute ideas for new research projects.
  • Undertake comprehensive literature reviews and write up results for publication.
  • Collaborate in preparation of scientific reports, journal articles, and occasionally present papers and posters.
  • Act as a source of information and advice on scientific protocols and experimental techniques.
  • Represent the research group at external meetings or seminars.
  • Carry out collaborative projects with partner institutions and research groups.
Basic Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry at time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with organometallic synthesis and analytical techniques (NMR, SXRD, mass spectrometry, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of the chemistry of main group elements.
