The Department of Chemistry at Indiana University, College of Arts + Sciences, offers a postdoctoral research position in the Zaleski Lab focused on the design and synthesis of hybrid molecular and nanomaterial catalysts. Recent work includes publications in ACS Applied Bio Materials, Chemical Science, ACS Catalysis, and Accounts of Chemical Research.
Applicants with a Ph.D. in any area of chemistry and a strong background in catalyst synthesis and materials design are encouraged. The role requires expertise in synthetic and photochemical transformations, laser characterization, material characterization, photochemistry, and spectroscopy.
Desired start date:
July 1, 2026 (flexible to accommodate outstanding candidates).
- Manage own academic research and administrative activities, coordinating multiple project aspects to meet deadlines.
- Adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques and experimental protocols to achieve research objectives.
- Use specialist scientific equipment in a laboratory environment.
- Assist in setting up a new research laboratory at IU (e.g., Schlenk lines, equipment ordering).
- Contribute ideas for new research projects.
- Undertake comprehensive literature reviews and write up results for publication in peer‑reviewed journals.
- Collaborate in the preparation of scientific reports and journal articles and occasionally present papers and posters.
- Act as a source of information and advice to other group members on protocols and techniques.
- Represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members or alone.
- Carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions and research groups.
- Required:
Ph.D. in Chemistry at time of appointment. - Preferred:
Experience with organometallic synthesis and relevant analytical techniques (NMR, SXRD, mass spectrometry) and a deep understanding of main group element chemistry.
Salary: $50,000 per year. Initial appointment of 12 months with the possibility of a second 12‑month extension based on performance. Competitive benefits package offered.
