This USDA grant‑funded postdoctoral fellowship will be held for up to three years, with the possibility of renewal after the first year based on performance and funding availability. The role offers benefits including retirement contribution and health insurance. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2026.
About the Research GroupDr. Drew Capone’s lab focuses on environmental health microbiology, including public health surveillance, microbial fate and transport, and quantitative risk assessment. Projects involve field research in Mozambique and Indiana and wet‑lab work in Bloomington.
Basic Qualifications- PhD in environmental health, environmental engineering, environmental science, microbiology, or a related field.
- Experience with molecular microbiology methods (e.g., nucleic acid extraction, qPCR, dPCR) and quantitative data analysis.
- Experience with metagenomic sequencing and bioinformatics.
- Fieldwork experience, including environmental sampling.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- An interest in mentoring undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. students.
The fellow will lead studies, mentor students, and generate new knowledge aligned with laboratory goals. Responsibilities include designing experiments, analyzing data, producing peer‑reviewed publications, and developing independent research interests. The fellow will also receive training in grant writing, research ethics, reproducibility, and project management.
SalarySalary is commensurate with experience.
