Position Summary
Dr. Yao-Ying Ma’s Laboratory in the Department of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology & Pharmacology at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is seeking a postdoctoral researcher with a Ph.D. in Neurobiology, Behavioral Neuroscience, Neuropharmacology, Computational Neuroscience, or another related field. The position focuses on three major research directions: neuro-substrates mediating long-term persistence of cocaine craving and opioid dependence; synaptic adaptations induced by prenatal and adolescent alcohol exposure;
and neural adaptations involved in psychiatric symptoms of neurodegenerative diseases.
The laboratory utilizes state-of-the-art molecular, biochemical, anatomical, electrophysiological, optogenetic, chemo genetic, behavioral, and computational approaches to uncover neuroadaptations in neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders. Research is supported by NIH, NIDA, NIAAA, NINDS, NIA, the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation, and the Indiana Spinal Cord & Brain Injury Research Fund.
Comprehensive hands‑on training will be provided in the following techniques, which are preferred but not required:
- Rodent brain surgeries
- Behavioral tests
- Confocal imaging
- Ex vivo patch clamp
- In vivo calcium imaging
- In vivo single‑unit electrophysiological recordings

Basic Qualifications- Ph.D. degree in Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Behavioral Neuroscience, Neuropharmacology, Computational Neuroscience, or a related field.
