Join a high-impact, data-rich initiative drawing on our extensive Aphasia Bank corpus to advance the science of discourse and gesture in persons with aphasia. The dataset is fully collected, quality-checked, and primed for analysis—your task is to drive it toward publication. This project is funded by an ongoing NIH grant. Type: Full-time (1-year appointment with the possibility of renewal) | Open to recent PhDs and postdoctoral researchers

Location: Indiana University Bloomington (Bloomington, IN). Collaborate with Drs. Brian Mac Whinney and Davida Fromm at Carnegie Mellon University, along with Dr. Brielle Stark.

Start: As soon as possible

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead analyses of discourse-level language and gesture data in aphasia
  • Produce and co-author approximately 4 peer-reviewed manuscripts within 12 months
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of SLPs, neuroscientists, and linguists
  • Manage your research and writing schedule independently within project goals
  • Optional:
    Present findings at conferences

Ideal Profile:

  • PhD in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Sciences, Psychology, Linguistics, Neuroscience, or related field (recent graduates encouraged) OR a Postdoc seeking focused writing time
  • Deep expertise in aphasia, especially discourse-level analysis
  • Proven publication record related to aphasia
  • Optional but preferred:
    Experience with large corpora and multimodal (gesture) annotation
  • Self-motivated, organized, and deadline-oriented
