Job Title: Rope Access Technician / Scaffolding

Job Description

Rope access Scaffolder professionals are skilled workers who use specialized equipment and techniques to access hard‑to‑reach areas, such as high‑rise crane or tower. They are responsible for performing maintenance, inspections, and repairs on these structures while ensuring safety measures are in place. With extensive training and experience, rope access professionals are a vital part of oil and gas industries, including construction.

A Rope Access Scaffolder is responsible, as part of a scaffolding team, for erecting scaffolds which are adequate for the purpose they were intended and comply with Saipem scaffold procedure.

They are also responsible, again as part of a scaffolding team, for dismantling scaffolds in a safe manner. Types of scaffold structures erected include independent tied scaffold, tower scaffold, birdcage scaffold, suspend scaffold and cantilever scaffold. It is their responsibility to ensure that plant and equipment is maintained on a regular and daily basis throughout the workscope duration, to deliver a high standard of work on project completion.

For activities of rope access are required to adhere to all OII global Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), IRATA Code of Practice, and Global RA Manager's (SME) instructions.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Rope access Scaffolders are required to carry out regular checks to ensure that their equipment is in good condition and meets safety standards.
  • They must conduct pre‑job briefings to ensure that all team members understand the job requirements and safety procedures.
  • They are responsible for performing rope access work in accordance with established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • The rope access technician must maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment usage, and maintenance schedules.
  • They should have a thorough knowledge of the equipment and techniques required for rope access work, including the use of rigging and safety devices.
  • The rope access technician must be able to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with other team members and clients.
  • They should be familiar with relevant legislation and regulations governing rope access work and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Must be able to maintain IRATA certification by means of recertification.
  • Serve as a Level III Rope Access Supervisor and carry out activities management, while working offshore (for Supervisor).
  • Erect & dismantle scaffold tower, independent, birdcage, hanging and cantilever scaffolds.
  • Erect & dismantle loading bay & truss out scaffolds.
  • Erect & dismantle roof edge protection scaffolds.
  • Scaffold inspection limited to: independent, bird cage, tower, cantilever, pre‑fabricated beams, fans, edge protection, minor alterations & barriers/rails.
  • Inspect offshore structures, vessels, and pipelines for appurtenances in conformance to specifications, using fixed or preset measuring instruments.
  • Prepare necessary reports regarding project.

  • Core 3 years’ experience in a similar role within the relevant sector.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Must hold IRATA Level 2 Certificate.
  • IRATA log book to indicate hours worked on the ropes.
  • BOSIET.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills.
