As part of the Office of Student Life, the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) is a historic 500,000‑square‑foot student union and the heart of campus life. It serves as a central hub for student engagement, hosting more visitors than any other location  IMU Facilities Team is responsible for maintaining this dynamic space, including the Biddle Hotel, kitchens and restaurants, meeting and event spaces, and various other facilities that support students and campus activities.

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician with experience in electrical or refrigeration work to join our IMU Facilities Team. This role is responsible for maintaining and repairing building systems and equipment, performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring all systems operate efficiently and safely.

General Responsibilities
  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on campus buildings, facilities, equipment or machinery.
  • Assembles, installs and/or repairs:
    Wiring, electrical and electronic components, plumbing/pipe systems, physical structures, fixtures, paint, HVAC systems, locks/access systems, compressors, generators, engines, etc.
  • Diagnoses problems and determines corrective solutions, referring to and/or adhering to building codes, blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
  • Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassembles equipment.
  • May lead other maintenance staff on projects or assist in a general maintenance capacity when others are in a lead role.
  • Maintains parts, supplies, and equipment, advising supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance duties. Drives Indiana University vehicles as needed. Works any shift as needed. 24‑hour a day emergency response as needed. Assists with snow removal activities as necessary.
Qualifications Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
Work Experience
  • 5 years verifiable journey‑level experience.
    OR
  • Certificate in Department Of Labor (DOL) apprenticed trade (electrical/plumbing/HVAC/carpentry).
Licenses and Certificates
  • Possesses a valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.
