Position: Electric, Fire, and Security Tech (Electrical Specialist)

FACILITY OPERATIONS-IUB (BL-PHYP-IUBLA)

Job Summary
  • Installs pathways and spaces for installation of low voltage wiring. Installs, terminates, and tests wires and cables, both copper and fiber-optic. Installs, tests, and troubleshoots cable systems. Installs communications and sound distribution systems. Installs prefabricated systems, such as controllers, dimming systems, life/safety systems, and energy management systems.
  • Performs testing, analysis, and repair of video, voice, and data systems.
  • Utilizes tools and equipment in a safe manner as well as following all applicable safety rules and procedures.
  • Reviews and makes applicable recommendations to drawings, blueprints, and construction specifications.
  • Participates in the training of apprentices and/or other workers as needed.
  • Orders replacement parts and components as needed.
  • Provides documentation as required for field work and assignments.
  • Assists in providing work estimates on assigned projects.
  • Stays available for emergency callouts and overtime as required.
  • Drives vehicle if needed.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

Education / Work Experience
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED) and 5 years of verifiable journey-level experience;
    OR
  • Associate's degree and 2 years of verifiable journey-level experience.
Licenses and Certificates
Required
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.

Working Conditions / Demands

This role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. This role frequently requires the ability to handle equipment. This role frequently requires the ability to remain stationary and ascend/descend ladders/stairs. This role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. The role requires the ability to detect items in close proximity as well as far away; discern between colors;

detect objects in peripheral space of self; discern items in detail; and to have good depth perception. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Required to have necessary tools to perform work. Equipment utilized: computers, meters, stationary equipment, electrical test and measurement equipment, basic hand tools, and specialized equipment.
