Maintenance is a department within the Office of Student Life located in the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU), a historic 500,000 square foot student union that serves as the center of the student experience and hosts more campus visitors than anywhere else on campus.
Responsibilities- Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on campus buildings, facilities, equipment or machinery.
- Assemble, install and/or repair wiring, electrical and electronic components, plumbing/pipe systems, physical structures, fixtures, paint, HVAC systems, locks/access systems, compressors, generators, engines, and related equipment.
- Diagnose problems and determine corrective solutions, referring to or adhering to building codes, blueprints, repair manuals, and parts catalogs as necessary.
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.
- Lead other maintenance staff on projects or assist in a general maintenance capacity when others are in a lead role.
- Maintain parts, supplies, and equipment, advising supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including general building maintenance tasks.
- Drive Indiana University vehicles as needed.
- Work any shift as needed, including 24-hour emergency response.
- Assist with snow removal activities as necessary.
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
- 5 years verifiable journey-level experience, or
- Certificate from the Department of Labor (DOL) in an apprenticed trade (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry).
- Possesses a valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by Indiana University upon date of hire.

- Operate specific tools and equipment, including hand and power tools, hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, precision measuring instruments, and electrical and electronic testing devices.
- Operate a computer.
- Work with a wide variety of cultures and backgrounds.
- May need to acquire and maintain position-required certifications.
This role requires the ability to remain in a stationary position as well as to move about the workplace for long durations. The role requires effective communication, operation of machinery and tools, and the ability to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, rooftops, and operate in tight spaces. The ability to detect various chemicals and gases, and to work at low levels, is required.
Availability to work during inclement weather (snow and ice) when weather emergencies dictate department needs is required.
Hourly pay: $27.40 - $30.66 based on qualifications, experience, and certifications.
