CAMPUS BUS (BA-BUSS-IUBLA)

Since 1966, IU Campus Bus Service has been providing bus service on the Bloomington campus. IU Bloomington's 1940‑acre campus is often considered one of the most beautiful campuses in the nation and is set in USA Today’s #2 Best College Town in America.

Campus Bus provides transportation to over three million rides a year and operates a six‑route system with approximately 30 buses, 50 bus operators, 4 mechanics, and a management team. It has a long‑standing partnership with the local transit system, further extending its reach and resources.

Campus Bus is a business unit within Auxiliary Business Services (ABS). ABS operates in a shared services model that supports finance, human resources, payroll, and marketing needs of Campus Bus.

• Supervises the operations of a public transit service in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining positive customer relations with passengers and other members of the university community.
• Schedules bus operators, assigns buses to routes, advises bus operators of detours and other day‑to‑day operating changes, ensures coverage for vacations, illnesses, holidays, and no‑shows, counsels bus operators on complaints from passengers and the general public, verifies and approves timekeeping records in Kuali TIME, approves leaves, updates PIE work records, manages ETA SPOT bus tracking, monitors and appropriately responds to electronic communication media such as telephone calls, IUBUS emails, and social media, and other related duties as assigned.
• Develops and prepares public transit routes (both published and internal) and bus operator work assignments and evaluates the effectiveness of such routes and work assignments.
• Monitors the safety and mechanical operation of the public transit vehicles operating during their assigned shift and takes actions to ensure safe and efficient operations or reports any variances from established standards to appropriate authority. Responds to accidents and ensures that all federal and state regulations and university policies and Campus Bus procedures for handling accidents are followed.
• Assists in the development of customer service training and refresher training programs, drafting departmental materials, monitoring operator performances, and making recommendations regarding employee training to improve customer service.

• Supervises the operations of a public transit service, including scheduling bus operators, assigning buses to routes, advising bus operators of detours and other day‑to‑day operating changes, assuring that bus schedules have sufficient staff coverage, counseling bus operators on complaints from passengers and the general public, etc.
• Participates in the recruiting, training, and evaluation of campus bus operators.
• Develops and prepares public transit routes and schedules and bus operator work assignments; evaluates the effectiveness of such routes, schedules, and work assignments.
• Conforms to all university, local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations applicable to public transportation operations. Monitors the safety and mechanical operation of the public transit vehicles operating during their assigned shift and takes actions to ensure safe and efficient operations or reports any variances from established standards.
• Prepares logs, forms, and reports on the ridership and operations of the assigned public transportation vehicle.
• Responds to accidents and ensures that all federal and state regulations and university policies and campus bus procedures for handling accidents are followed.
• Ensures fleet maintenance attendants are adequately scheduled so that the fleet of transit buses are washed, fueled, and cleaned each evening.
• Works with diesel mechanics to coordinate service, repair, and other maintenance.
• Operates a public transit vehicle at times when no bus operators are available.

• Required
• High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED) AND
• Completion of bus operator training program

• 2 years in public transit and driving public transit vehicles
